Peeter Lepik, Martin Simovart and Katri Paas attended Annual Conference of International Bar Association
4000 participants from more than 120 nations attended the Annual Conference of International Bar Association (IBA) held in Singapore, October 14-19, 2007. The Annual Conference is an unparalleled opportunity for legal practitioners around the world to discuss most current developments in all areas of the legal profession and exchange immensely valuable knowledge and expertise. A raft of legal issues covering wide selection of substantive topics currently affecting all areas of law was discussed this year. Subjects included the copyright law, gaming law, arbitration, terrorism on air travel, workplace discrimination and money laundering issues. Conference featured three very impressive showcase sessions. On Monday 15 October, the Public and Professional Interest Division examined the value of awareness of cultural differences to lawyers working cross-jurisdictionally. On the morning of Wednesday 17 October, the Legal Practice Division looked closely at the relationship between the rule of law and economic development, specifically through foreign investment. On the afternoon of 17 October, the Human Rights Institute highlighted some of the key developments in the global struggle against corruption, and on Friday the whole day was dedicated to the rule of law.
